Unless you are drinking your 20th glass of the night, cheap wines were made to marinate meat. Not to drink!!!

Sometimes do you wonder what to do with a bad wine (I mean cheap wine)? Those that someone brought to the party and no one ever opened? Well, last night I found a good use for it... Marinate meat. Yes, I know this is not any news, but I never really tried before. It was so easy to prepare and the result, oh my... a surprisely flavor. Now, I almost want to have cheap red wine around all the time, it makes the meat not only flavor, but it gives a great firmer texture. Try with Flat Iron Steak, a cut of steak from the shoulder and pretty affordable. Following is my quick recipe:

Flat iron marinate with red wine.

Simple recipe.
1 (1-pound) flat iron steak
2 glasses of red wine
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 teaspoon thyme
Salt and ground black pepper

For an extra touch:
Add to the mix: 2 cloves garlic minced and 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder.

Marinate:
Whisk together all the ingredientes.
Place the steak inside of a large resealale bag and pour the mix.
Squeeze out excess air and seal.
Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.

Cook:
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the steak in the hot skillet for 4 or 5 minutes on each side, or to your desired degree of doneness.

Little note: These steaks taste best at medium rare. Allow them to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Pair with: Cabernet Sauvignon, which is flavorful red wine with spicy characteristics.

Enjoy, and let me know how it goes.
